Simple Elegance: A Historic Rebirth at a National Shrine in Williamsburg, VA
The National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham at Saint Bede Catholic received a complete interior renovation. This project began January 27, 2019 as a fundraising campaign called “Restore the Holy House.” Saint Bede reported, “major portions of the interior [that] have reached the end of their intended lifespan.” There are still opportunities on their website to support the effort.
DMA Floors Project Manager Millie Rice and her team partnered with Henderson, Inc.to completely revamp this historic building with the guidance of Construction Manager Bernie Mills and Superintendent Matt Hipple. The collaborative team effort put the design concept together from scratch, to create the beautiful layout for the porcelain tile floors, provided by International Tile and Marble.

The new design boasting an elegant aesthetic and a simple, Old World ambience. The rounded finished edges of the raised platform were made possible by Schluter Systems Radius Profile. Due to the age of the building and the state of the concrete subfloor, self-leveling was performed by DMA using Mapei’s self-leveling system. This created a near-flawless substrate that allowed for a painless installation.
The outstanding team put together by Henderson, Inc. finished the entire renovation with zero items on the punch-list, which DMA Floors was privileged to be a part of. In the words of Henderson, Inc., this project truly went “Beyond the Building” to provide a gorgeous chapel for the local Williamsburg residents.
This isn’t the first project that involved collaboration between DMA Floors and Henderson, Inc. In November, 2019, we announced the completion of High Street Luxury Apartments and the Holiday Inn Club Vacations Resort. If you are looking for a seamless renovation, this team has a proven success rate!
